RAMPANT PRESTWICH IN SEVENTH HEAVEN

Sunday February 22nd 2009 | Football

Prestwich raced in to a five-nil half-time lead in Sunday’s Premier Division match against SC Bury at Heys Road. The visitors pulled back a couple of goals as the cricketers let their foot off the gas in the second half before two late strikes restored the five goal advantage.

As early as the fifth minute, Prestwich were in front when Chris Hudson’s measured through ball sprang Dean Astley free who rounded the ‘keeper to score.

The lead was doubled ten minutes later as Jon Sharples bagged with a header from a Prestwich corner on the left.

Astley then found Danny Healey in space who raced past the last Bury man to slot in the corner as the ‘keeper advanced.

Defender Chris Mulligan then grabbed his first PCCFC goal in 28 appearances, stooping low to head home another Healy corner from the left on the half-hour.

Paul McGovern then pounced on a fumble by the sub Bury ‘keeper to notch up the fifth as half-time approached.

Bury came back in to the game after the break, taking advantage of some sloppy defending from the home side to pull two goals back within the space of ten minutes.

But Prestwich weren’t to be denied their five-goal lead as first Astley raced clear to score his second in the 80th minute before sub Stephen Grimes turned on the style striking in to the roof of the net from the most ridiculous of angles.

Final score: Prestwich CC 7, SC Bury 2

PCCFC: M Hudson, M Sharples, Barnes (Steadman), Mulligan (1) (Holt), J Sharples (1), C Hudson, Walmsley, Keane, Astley (2), McGovern (1) (Grimes (1))
