A Team away to church Institute won 9 -7 (6 winners to 4) agg 182 -189
A Team
Apologies for no report last week – I had technical difficulties i.e. lost the score cards!
Needless to say both teams won and won well and are both sitting comfortably in second position.
We are now at the half way stage and in second position with our next game at home to the League Leaders Unionist B in what could be the title decider.
Any how on with tonight’s game away to the Church Institute, who are based at Whitefield Park. Prestwich won 9 – 7 (6 winners to 4)
Davie Palmer fought back from 0 – 6 down to level at 10 across, then exchanged points with his opponent W Hamson and the scores still level at 15 all then followed
The end of the night, W hamson first bowl was 2 foot past the block, Dave replied with a 6 inch slightly to the side, w hamson then had the audacity to beat it with 2 inch bowl only for Dave to reply with perfect control and weight and pushed the bowl out to leave himself 2. However the next end was shocking with all bowls nearly 5 foot away. Final score Dave won 21 -17 with 5 “2s” and in a marathon 29 ends.
Globe trotter Steve Blaymire impressed at first and raced to a 6 – 0 lead in singles only to see his opponent K Johnson establish control of the game to win.
Final score Steve lost 11 – 21
Skipper Cameron started well opening a 5 -0 lead , but J raffo replied with 6 of his own, this was to be setting for the rest of the game, stu would pull away only for his opponent to claw it all back! Final score Stu won 21 – 19 with 7 “2s” and in 31 ends
Sprinter Gareth lived up to his name and raced to 5 – 0 lead, but his opponent J Airy produced some excellent close bowling and quickly piled up the points to take the lead 5 – 12 & 9 -15. Gareth chipped in with 3 doubles to level than swapped points and chipped a couple more doubles to take the game Final score Gareth won 21 -16.
Ian not so luckett must be kicking himself, or be kicked by the team for he raced to a commanding 16 -5 lead and was bowling well. R Goldie then got in and stretched Ian to full corners (which used to be Ian’s game – he must be getting old, or fatter or both!) Ian could not reach and struggled with the length. This set the scene for the rest of the game final score Ian lost 17 – 21
First Half 4.5 -2
Marky Mark up next and struggling with consistency this season was out to prove a point and was involved in a real arm wrestle with the lead changing hands six times!
As follows Marks score first 3 -0, 3 – 6, 9 -7, 12 -15, 18 -17, 18 -19 and 21 – 19
Final score Mark 21 -19 with 7 two’s in 27 ends
The crowd up next – Jon Armstrong quickly asserted his control and established a healthy 12 -4 lead and looking comfortable against the young and improving Phil Porter. Phil pulled some points back but Jon stepped up a gear and pulled away to lead 20 -10 which included a 7 break, Phil replied with 7 of his own. Jon hang on to win. Final score 21 -17 and so keeps his unbeaten record of 8 from 8
Chad was next on and struggled with the green and some fine bowling from the other youngster Dominic Porter with Chad conceding 6″2s” which is out of character and proved to be the difference. Final score Chad lost 16 -21
Mr 100% red balls or orange balls Colin was up next and always chased the game from 3 -7, 6 -12 down before levelling at 14 all. Colin took heart from this fight back and continued in a similar vain to take the match. Final score Colin won 21 -17.
Chrissie Ireland also on 100% played the very experienced Pete Bishop and quite frankly was put to the sword! Pete was impervious with some imperial bowling worthy of a king, never allowed Chris to play his game. Final score Chris lost 10 -21.
