Bury GSOB 0, Prestwich FC 4
Friendly match at Buckley Wells, Bury
Wednesday 22nd July 2009
Prestwich travelled to Bury Grammar School on Wednesday evening to take on Bury GSOB Reserves of the Lancs Amateur League Division 2 – a game which would provide a good example of the calibre of teams we are likely to face during the coming season.
The visitors enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges but had to wait until the 20th minute before testing out the Bury ‘keeper as John Blezard saw his effort well saved.
Danny Harrison sent a pile-driver goalwards just two minutes later but again found the ‘keeper in fine form as he beat the shot away from danger.
Danny Morley was next to try his luck on the half hour but sent his low effort in to the side netting before Harrison was out of luck again with a drive from distance that was parried to safety.
But Prestwich finally broke the deadlock ten minutes before the break when good work by Stephen Grimes allowed Harrison the space to dink an effort over the advancing Bury ‘keeper.
With late Prestwich re-enforcements now arriving, manager Lee Metcalfe could now afford to start giving his players a well-earned break after a promising opening forty-five from his side.
With the Prestwich ‘keepers rarely tested, the visitors were regularly knocking at Bury’s door but were just lacking that little bit of composure in the final third.
But in the 70th minute, Morley finally doubled the lead for Prestwich with a well taken strike from the edge of the box that nestled in the bottom corner.
Craig Howarth was then sent tumbling in the area just five minutes later and Anthony Roberts calmly slotted the resulting penalty home, sending the Bury ‘keeper the wrong way.
Striker John Blezard wrapped up the scoring ten minutes from time when he collected a poor goal kick before advancing unchallenged and rounding the ‘keeper to find the corner and bring up a well deserved fourth.
A superb showing from the lads ahead of this Saturday’s matches at Goshen where the first team take on Irlam A (2pm) and R0bbie Monetti’s reserves entertain Standians Reserves (1:30pm).
