WEEK 13 WEDS BOWLS REPORT “A” TEAM

Friday July 24th 2009 | Bowling

This report is dedicated to Sir Brian Lorenzini – who is the Doubting Thomas of the club for he has gone record of stating that bowls reports are only published when the writer (moi, aka the crowd or yorkie wins !!!) well Sir Brian of cricket read on..

Week 13 match report “A” were away to Prestwich Libs A and won 10.5 – 5 .

“A” Team
Week 13 and this did indeed prove unlucky for some! With the top three averages all losing

Sprinter “poet” Gareth – yes you read correctly Gareth has taken up poetry and proceeded to bowl with poetic precision – well the first 5 ends anyway, where he raced, in his unique style to lead 7 -2. Brian Kelly pulled a couple back only to see Gareth step up a gear to win with empathic ease 21 -7, which consisted of 7 “2’s” in only 19 ends.

Globe trotter blaymire still not 100% fit struggled with the green and difficult opponent – D Bretherton and was always chasing the game, despite ole man Archie on the sidelines – Steve lost 13 -21

Dave Palmer fresh back from sunnier climates and out to remind his old club of their loss and playing against G Davies was clearly struggling from jet lag for he was another who struggled with the pace and never really hit form lost 14 -21 conceding 7”2’s” along the way.

Chrissie Ireland against the young and impressive Neil Whittaker must have left his exceedingly deep pockets at home – for he was given a lesson of over the crown bowling and proceeded to go down with a whimper (most unlike Chris) and lost
11 -21

My man of the match – David “I only came to watch and I can read and I can tell depressing stories “Bellis also out to remind the Libs of his prowess were pitched against the ever green Stan Reid. Despite trailing 0 -5 Dave put in an 11 break , which was followed by exchanges of blows and the scores now stood at 16 -10 in daves favour , for him to put in another mini spurt of to win 21 – 11 – no wonder Daves Smiles a lot !!!

First half 3 -3

Vice skipper blue balls himself Mark Prosser against C toland copied Gareth and raced to a 13 -4 lead which would prove to be enough for Mark to take the game. His opponent did put up fight but only scored in singles final score Mark won 21 – 17

Another slow start from skipper stu again trailing 0 -6 put in a break of 11 only to see Mike Whittaker respond and with the scores at 13 -12 to stu the game was wide open.
Stu found a nice mark and out in a mini break of 6, again Mike replied with 5 of his own Stu held on to win 21 -17

Marathon Morley must by now have played at least 2 additional games by virtue of the fact that all his matches are a min of 30 ends! To be fair this is testament to his character for he never says die and always fights on. Up against John Whittaker Staff established a commanding 15 -5 lead in only 15 ends. But John responded and dug deep in the missing pockets of Chris to pull the score back to 17 all staff had the edge and won 21 – 17

Mr Colin red balls top of the averages Palmer playing his old sparring partner Steve Badcock who was second in his own team averages. Was involved in a real exhibition of close bowling worthy of county never mind 1st Division!!
With Steve out for revenge and Colin to maintain his position neither player could establish themselves in the early stages and the scores stood at 10 -11 in Steve favour.
Steve got on a mark and pulled away to lead 18 – 13 Colin dug deep but was not enough final score 16 -21 to Steve

Last but by no means least the crowd aka yorkie aka miserable whinging “nobody shouts when I am on” Jon Armstrong – playing against the libs average leader John Young. I could write about the see saw tussle, the tight exchanges, the tense atmosphere, the close bowling, the coolness of both players, but all this would be a lie!! – the” crowd” bowled ok but nothing like his form of late and allowed John to score with yard bowls. THE TRUTH IS THIS WAS AN AVERAGE GAME PLAYED BY SLIGHLY ABOVE AVERAGE PLAYERS WHICH THE HOMESTER EDGED. Jon lost 16 – 21 but it was enough to secure the agg by a single point and leaves the team and divisional averages wide open.

Final score 10.5 -5 ( 5 winners all)
