WEEK 14 WEDS BOWLS REPORT “A” TEAM

Saturday August 1st 2009 | Bowling

This week saw the return of fixture with Eagle & Child C, and having taken almost maximum points away we were looking to go one better – and we delivered, in style, a mauling with an empathic 10 -0 win and the agg 210 – 80. Though to be fair The eagle boys still kept smiling and clearing enjoying themselves.

The B team had no game

First of all my apologies for the delay in the weekly round up (yee arh), this is due to a meeting with Messer’s Lenny larger and Colin curry and needing to tend to Tommy toilet. Also I have been back to Gods own County in the delightful Yorkshire where the sheep are still nervous!! And not a black pudding in “site” – yes plenty or Yorkshire Puddings before anyone gets tempted with a bit of wit.

Secondly we have a lady avidly following our reports, the delightful Ann(e) married to depressing Dave Bellis, and as I write Robbie Williams “Angel” plays on MTV – for she must be an angel to put up with depressing Dave stories (only kidding ….. or am I?)

Anyway back to the task in hand with Barry beer to my left and Scorecards at the ready ….

The sprinter – Gareth Martin playing against P Kirk, must have fancied a go of middle distance for after 14 ends the score stood at 9 all with neither player controlling the game. Gareth produce his poetry again and proceeding to put in a break of 8 to move the score to 17 – 10, which proved to be enough for the final ends showed the players reverting as before and exchanged blows without keeping hold of the block final score 21 -14 won

Marathon Morley Must have had Mustard for tea, since he was quicker than quick draw McGraw from quickland and won in only 21 ends which as you the readers will know this is Speedy for staff. He was never in any trouble against S Farrell and won comfortably 21 -5

Deep pockets Chrissie Ireland playing the experienced Derek Tonge struggled in the early stages and the scores stood at 8 – 7 was another who got a grip and delivered an 8 break to lead 16 – 7, though Derek responded with 6 of the best. But Chris got back in to win 21 – 14

Skipper Stu was stupendous, and in the words of Jim Bowen “super, smashing, great” with his, silky smooth delivery simply awesome against the highly fancied (not by me he is the wrong sex) Ken Mitchell who is leading the eagle Averages, raced to an empathic 10 – 0 lead Ken a nicked a couple back, but Stu responded with brute force and punished mistakes to win the game 21 -8 which included 7 “2’s”

Man of the Match blaymire would make barns Wallis proud with his bombing of the block with beautiful bowls that displayed majestic magnificence where both his bowls were never more than a foot away. Up against the Hapless Steve Thompson Blaymire raced to 19 -0 lead in 12 ends and 7”, 2s”. But Steve T was not to be outdone for He produced the bowl of the Game, with Steve B laying game (again 8 inch from the block counting 2 ) Steve T’s wood went through a gap that was smaller than a midges …… was like threading spaghetti through the eye of the needle, to rest on the block with a toucher. Then Steve T had the audacity to score another at the next end! Steve B quickly showed who was the daddy and polished it off with a double at the following end to win 21 -2

First half 5 – 0 agg 105 – 43

The Crowd was back to his verbal best with his round the green antics and verbal skills; it is just a shame he can’t bowl as well as he shouts!! Playing Tony Hudson, Jon found himself trailing 0 -6, but settled down and replied with a 9 break to make the score 9 – 6 only for Tony to respond in kind. The scores still locked at 14 across partly because both players were interested in what was going on the tennis courts (say no more) and Jon must have thought that since people think I am dosser (lucket) I may as well play his mark!, and it worked for Jon ran out to win 21 -14

David Palmer on next, and I am sorry David but can you please explain why you would wear ¾ shorts that go to the middle of the calf only to pull your socks all the way up !! ??? Perhaps it was a ploy For David proved too strong against Frank Livesey and won 21 – 6 in 18 ends and including 7”2’s”

Colin red balls, average leader its getting boring now Palmer up next and keen to put last week behind him played against M Steele who must have had nerves of steel. For Colin was back to his brilliant best with poetic pinpoint precision of close bowling won comfortably with a breaks of 7 and 13 to win 21 -5 in 15 ends and a very impressive 9”2’s” . But he did concede 2 doubles as well (very poor must try harder)

Depressing Dave Bellis exceeded his story telling standard from last week and followed it up with one which was without being rude quite dull at best. How does his good lady wife put up with it? Well Mrs Bellis if it is excitement you need, come and watch on a weds and have a laugh at Dave palmer’s dress code
Another one was never in danger and controlled the game playing against S Brammah and won 21 – 6 which included a 9 break in singles at the end

Not so lucky luckett back in his anchor position and back with confidence from his outing with the “B” last week played Gerry Brimston and delivered another single figure win 21 -6 in 17 ends which included breaks of 8 and 12 and 8 doubles (and I don’t mean from the bar)

Second half 5 – 0 agg 105 not very many
