TENNIS OUTREACH PROJECT – UPDATED

Thursday October 1st 2009 | Club, Tennis

The Tennis Outreach Project was completed on 26th June and members might need to be reminded of the aims of the project. The project was conceived 18 months ago seperate from but complimentary to Phase One (Court re-surfacing) of the SPACSE project.

Funding had to be raised seperately because of the very specific objectives of the Outreach Project. These objectives were to make the newly resurfaced courts available for wheelchair tennis players and thus make us the first tennis club in Bury and the surrounding districts to be able to do so.

The Outreach Project was split ito two seperate phases the first being the construction of the courtside disabled toilet and the second to provide safe smooth level access to the new courts with disabled parking places.

Phase one the disabled toilet was completed over a year ago and has been in regular use and Phase two the car park has just been completed giving 17 marked parking bays, three of which are disabled.

The completion of the project marks another milestone in the club’s aim to benefit the whole community rather than just the membership.

Users of the disabled bays are reminded of the need to display a Blue Badge.
