FOOTBALL FIXTURES DECIMATED BY WEATHER

Sunday November 15th 2009 | Football

The heavy rainfall over the last couple of weeks has brought an abrupt halt to any meaningful football action at Prestwich F.C. recently and, unfortunately, the situation doesn’t look like improving any time soon!

The scheduled matches for the First Team, Reserves and the Sunday Team were called off due to waterlogged pitches over the weekend of the 7th and 8th of November.

There was more hope this Saturday with a bit of work in the morning out on the pitch with Craig, Curt, Jacko, Hoppy and Robbo getting it in to a decent enough playable state which the referee was happy with. But as the heavens opened again just before kick-off, the chances of getting a full game in were grim.

Prestwich started well and saw an effort slam a post before another chance soon after was hacked clear off the Bolton Ambassadors goal line.

The home side had a golden chance to take the lead on 10 minutes when a penalty was awarded for a foul just inside the box but Curtis Ward’s well stuck spot kick was superbly tipped around the post by the Bolton ‘keeper.

But there was no need to worry as the resulting corner was headed in by Sean Haslam at the near post.

The rain began to subside a little and there was hope that a full game could be completed. But this hope wasn’t to last long as the break proved only temporary and the rain got heavier and heavier.

Ambassadors grabbed an equaliser on 20 minutes but the conditions underfoot were treacherous and there were patches of standing water and mud all over the pitch that the ball was no longer rolling through.

On the half-hour, the referee made the unpopular but sensible decision to abandon the match with the scores level at 1-1. The match will be replayed at a later date.

PFC: Hudson, Hopkins, Ward, Taylor, Steadman, Lott, Howarth, Kosub, Haslam (1), Jackson, Roberts. Unused Subs: Mercer, Barnes, Foley, Blezard, McGovern

• It was a similar story for the Reserves as their match against Radcliffe Town over at Outwood Road was abandoned after 38 minutes with the scores level at 1-1. Kieran Comiskey’s penalty in the 25th minute levelled Radcliffe’s 10th minute opener.

• Sunday’s Millenium Cup match against Cheers Bar at Drinkwater Park was called off on Saturday night due to a waterlogged pitch.

• Left-back Michael Woodcock has signed for Prestwich F.C. from Manchester League neighbours Prestwich Heys.
