Having now passed the halfway stage of the league it was time to start having some home games!
We were at home to St Marys SC and looking to complete the double double at both disciplines and went as follows:
Darts
Showboat Stu in his usual slot had a comfortably 2 – 0 victory against Susan Reilly which included 3 “100’s” and a very impressive “3” at the start of the second leg!
Andy “2 D’s” Bradders playing the in form Dave Allen (no, not the guy from the tele) who was fresh from his 180 in the previous week for St Marys , struggled in the early exchanges again frustrated himself (trying too hard me thinks) won the first leg, but lost the next two Andy lost 1 – 2.
Chomper John “fat fingers” Davies who messed the score up whilst marking was looking to maintain his 100% record and not conceded a leg and playing against B woolne, Lost the 1st leg but stepped up notch to win the next and level the game and forcing a third leg, proceeded to step up several more gears to take the leg in only 17 darts and included 2 “100’s” for good measure. won 2 -1
Gareth (still need a nick name) Martin had a 2 – 0 win over J Woolner with a 121 and 52 checkout in the second leg .
Metric (Nick Carter) had a quiet game by his standards (might be something to do with the newly acquired mark on his neck!).
Playing against J Bailey needed to take the game into 3 legs to protect his own 100% unbeaten record and won 2 – 1 with only 1 “100” and a 50 checkout along the way.
marathon Jon O’Connor out to prove last week was no fluke and up against the highly experienced K Haslam silenced all critics (me) and won 2 – 0 and even had 2 “100’s” to boot.
last but no means least Capt nemo (jon Army) and fresh from his domino win, playing the opposing skipper Alan Bowkett, struggled in the first leg with any consistency and went down. But like all yorkies showed some true grit and stepped up a gear to take the next two legs with 3 “100’s” to win 2 – 1
Result 6 – 1 (13 – 5 legs).
Doms
With some regular players missing it was up to half of the darts team to fill the big shoes of the absent ladies, and thanks to Steve Dixon for stepping in behind the bar to allow Janet to play.
The opening match was the battle of the haslams, John the Hammer Haslam and Gareth no name played against John Bailey
and K Haslam went down with a whimper 53 – 91
Wendy Cameron & Janet Austin against P Vickers & G Hill levelled the game with a 91 – 81 win
Andy “2 D’s” Bradders and Big Ted against E Bedford & S hughes had a comfortable victory 91 – 74
Then the match of the night Dart pairing Capt nemo & Showboat STu had a very tight, nerve tingling, tense encounter with The Woolners, and we certainly couldn’t pull the wool over their eyes! the scores were locked all the way with never more than 2 points in it. With the score stood at 88 – 90 Capt nemo held his nerve, played the right dom (apparently) to leave his opponent with no score only to allow Showboat to chip in with 3 and take the game 91 – 90 and with it the match points.
Big Ted & The Hammer saved until the end in case of the game going to the tie break narrowly lost 83 – 91 against Dave Allen (no not the man from the tele) & Skipper E Bennet.
result 3 -2 to prestwich
No game next week – 21/12/09 due to the darts pairs qualifiers, where we have Capt nemo & Metric playing at the Church Inn in Bury and showboat Stu & chomper fat fingers at Old Tower.
Next League game is home on 11 Jan 2010 against Lord Raglan
