DARTS & DOMS WEEK 8

Saturday February 6th 2010 | Club

At home against the woolpack from Radcliffe and we were looking to avenge our 0 – 5 whitewash in the dominoes earlier in the season, the darts we were looking for the win that would take us into the final match 2 pts clear of second place who we play next week, but did things go has planned?

Darts
with the order mixed up a little to freshen the players we got off to a flyer, John Davies had the honour and won comfortably with a 125 score in the first leg and followed this up with 2 tons in the second to win 2 -0 and keep his perfect record of played 9 won and only dropped 1 leg all season. He has now had an impressive 21 “tons” and 3 “140’s” making him favoured to take the most ton + trophy.

Martyn ackroyd up next and also won 2 -0 with a ton and 59 checkout in the first leg

ShowBoat Stu cameron hot on john d heels also recorded a 2 -0 victory to keep his 100% record of 8 from 8 and not dropped a leg, Stu Chipped in a cheeky 140 and 70 checkout in the second leg.

Skipper Nemo ( jon Army) up next and was involved in the leg of the evening, with the first 2 legs having gone with the throw and some very disappointing throwing forced a third leg with both players swapping tons, then nemo bottle went, having had
2 x treble 20 he threw for double top, which he hit to score 160 rather than the 180!!!! this only served to inspire his opponent who proceeded to checkout with a lucky 106 – hit treble 12, 20 then checked out on the bull in only 18 darts nemo lost 1 – 2 picking up 3 x “100s ” and 1 “140” along the way

jon o’ connor having raced back to compete and though he two lost in 3 legs 1 – 2 and his opponent finishing on the bull he will consider himself unlucky for he scored 4 tons inc 134 and also checked out with a Treble 6, Treble 12 double 4 62 finish

Andy Bradley struggling with a sore back from cricket was never in the game and went down with a whimper 0 -2

This made the match 3 – 3 with one to go and nemos nerves was starting to show and finger nails well and truely chewed, passed th baton to young nick to bring home the “bacon” and he rose to the challenge and was class with a 2 – 0 victory inc
1 ton and 2 x 140

Final score 4 – 3 ( 10 -6 legs) this result means we are top of the league going into the final game next against the Old Tower 2 points clear, and if we were to lose it would force a playoff between the two teams – fingers crossed we can finish the job.

Doms
the doms league is very tight between 3 teams St marys, our opponent tonight – the wool pack and ourselves. If we win we go into the final week with destiny in our hands if we lose then we could be out of the running and rely on other results and with the reliable hammer away at bury fc a difficult night was expected

reliable paring of big Ted & Gail opened proceedings with a lengthy close encounter to win 91 – 85

Wendy & Janet up next looking to maintain there unbeaten run of 3 games were unlucky and lost 71 – 91

New pairing of Stu & andy bradders pulled the game back to win 91 – 72

another new pairing of the inexperience Martyn Ackroyd and skipper nemo ended in distress, the scores were close at 59 – 65 when nemo played the wrong dom allowing the next player to score 26 points and so take the game 59 – 91

like the darts before everything hinged on the last game, and the camerons stood up to the challenge and won 91 – 68 and take the match 3 – 2

During the evening we heard (yet to be confirmed) that St Marys lost at doms and so have finished their fixtures with 12 points, we also have 12 points but have a final game in hand, and the woolpack who also have a game in hand have 10 points so this means that if Prestwich win on mon in both darts and doms then we will be crowned champions of both doing the double, a feat not achieved for many a year,

So please come along and support us in our final league match on MON 8 Feb at home from 8.30 against the Old Tower who are second in the darts , and help us do the double

Also as things stand and I hope I am not counting my chickens ot tempting fate but we are also in line for the following honours :
BIg Ted & Gail best dominoe win 91 -33
Stuart Cameron least darts with 15
Stuart Cameron in 2nd place with the highest checkout of 118 – 119 being the best
Nick Carter has qualified for the 180 play off – so far only 7 others
Nick Carter & Jon Army have qualified for the darts Pairs finals
darts ind yet to be played for – not a bad debut season
