DANNY JONES SIGNS AS PROFESSIONAL

Prestwich Cricket, Tennis & Bowling Club are delighted to announce that Danny Jones has signed as our professional for the forthcoming 2010 cricket season.

Chairman Brian Lorenzini was thrilled to secure the signature of the former Roe Green paid man and said tonight, “We are, to say the least, absolutely delighted to sign Danny as our professional for 2010.

“I have watched him mature from the age of 10 to arguably the best professional in our league last year,” said Lorenzini.

“I only found out about his availability two weeks ago and immediately made contact with a view to signing him. He is a great lad with real ability with bat and ball and he is sure to be a great crowd pleaser here at Prestwich.”

Apart from his many years at Greenleach Lane, Danny has also played for Lancashire U21s, Lancashire 2XI, Cheshire and Leeds Bradford UCCE.

Last season as Professional at Roe Green, Danny averaged 35.70 with the bat with a top score of 153 while his left arm medium/fast collected 63 wickets at an average of 13.83.

Danny, 25, spoke to pctbc.com about the move and his excitement about the developments going on around the club.

“Even though Roe Green and Prestwich are rivals within the league, when I got the call from Brian I was very interested,” said Jones.

“Prestwich have been a very successful side over recent years and once I came for a meeting at the club and saw the progress that it’s making and where it wants to go both on and off the field, my mind was pretty much made up.

“Like Roe Green, Prestwich has a very strong youth setup and I echo the sentiments of skipper Steven Lorenzini in seeing the juniors come up through the ranks and play senior cricket,” said Jones.

“And we all know the senior teams are also very strong and I’m very much looking forward to becoming a part of it and hopefully see us getting back amongst the honours again this coming season.”
