MINI TENNIS INTER SCHOOLS COMP

Friday July 9th 2010 | Tennis

Year 3 & 4 pupils from Gorsefield Primary, St Margarets Primary, Sedgley Park Primary and Mersey Drive Primary took part in a tennis competition hosted at Prestwich Tennis Club on 19th May and 16th June.

Pupils participated in a variety of activities that enabled them to develop their tennis skills. LTA Qualified Tennis Coach Adam Maddock gave the pupils some much needed coaching prior to engaging in individual and team competitions.

Overall winners on the day were Gorsefield Primary who will go forward as one of the two Primary schools to represent Bury in the County Finals in Bolton in June. Well done to all that took part!

On Wednesday 16th June Secondary School Year 7 & 8 Pupils from seven Bury Schools took part in a greatly truncated competition to decide which Bury Secondary School would go forward to represent Bury.

The competition was held using a very confusing formula with the outcome that two girls from Woodhey and two boys from Castlebrook would form a ‘school team’ to represent Bury at Manchester GM Games in July

Keith Mills who is the Junior Tennis Coordinator and Clubmark Standards Manager for Prestwich Cricket Tennis and Bowling Club said the club were happy to support the Bury School Sports Partnership in introducing Tennis into both Primary and Secondary schools.
