JOHN SMITH 1945-2010

Thursday September 2nd 2010 | Club

It is with great sadness that we record the death of John Smith a former member of PCTBC. He passed away last Sunday.

John played for both Prestwich and Stand CC at 1st X1 level in the sixties with distinction and a great air of flair and determination . He always retained a great interest in both clubs and on a recent visit to PCTBC he expressed his pleasure at the progress made since his days at the club. When John moved to Cumbria to start his successful Hotel business his interest in cricket continued at Esthwaite Vale CC.

His other great love, which he shared with his whole family, was Sedgley Park RUFC where he became President in 2008 after playing and coaching for many years. John also supported Bury FC after signing for them in the early sixties. John was a larger than life character and it was always an absolute pleasure to be in his company. How many times do we hear about losing people that have given so much pleasure and support to whatever they get involved in but with so much more still too give.

Everyone at PCTBC offer their condolences to his wife Joan and family Claire, Emma and Phil and of course the rest of the Smith Family. The funeral will be held at the Servite Church in Sedgley Park on Friday 3rd September.

God Bless John.
