Prestwich Reserves 4, Oldham Hulmeians Reserves 0
Lancs Amateur League Division Five

Prestwich welcomed second placed Oldham Hulmeians Reserves to Heys Road and the home side kept up their unbeaten run with an impressive win.

Prestwich started off well with some good football being played and the opening goal came after just 11 minutes when a good ball from Kieran Comiskey found Kieran Doherty at the back post who slotted it past the ‘keeper.

On the stroke of half-time the home side doubled their advantage when Jordan Clegg picked up the ball near the left hand side. With nothing much on he decided to let fly from 30 yards and the ball beat the ‘keeper high in to the top corner.

The Prestwich back four of Williams, Turner, Byrnes and Woodcock were giving nothing away and that continued in to the second half as Prestwich came out firing on all cylinders.

With the midfield line of Jones, Comiskey, Lewis and Doherty causing all sorts of problems for the visitors, it was no surprise when the third goals game on the hour mark as Doherty sneaked in at the back post before firing in to the top corner.

With Clegg and Hoggard running their back four ragged, the fourth goal came just 10 minutes later when Comiskey robbed their player of the ball before ‘Feeding the Hog’ who raced away and placed his low shot to the side of the on rushing ‘keeper.

With the game safe Bobby Finch and Rhys Hardie entered the fray at left back and up front respectively while David McNally also came on for his debut at right back.

All in all, a very good performance against the second placed team in our division.

MANAGERS NOTE – Having lost three players on the morning of the game, the pleasing thing was the players that came in and did a great job for the team. Like I keep telling the lads, if we are going to win anything this year its a squad game and no one is guaranteed a place in the side. They all have to work for their shirt and all credit to the players who are training hard and working together as a team. Their attitude has been brilliant.

After 15 mins the visitors headed home from a free kick to take the lead after some slack Prestwich marking at the back post.
Prestwich’s play was somewhat disjointed however they were creating openings and they drew level on the half hour. Dida tried a speculative effort from the edge of the box which crashed off the underside of the bar but goal poacher Reid was there to fire in the rebound for his 2nd goal in as many matches.
After the break a much improved defensive performance gave Prestwich a better platform on which to take the game to the opposition. The introduction of Birthday Boy Darbyshire gave more creativity to the midfield whilst allowing freedom for 3rd team pro Roberts to run at the defence. The reward eventually came when Leckie converted from short range to give Prestwich the lead with 15 mins to go.
The mood was now lighter in the stands and the big following (which included former PCCFC legends Astley and Keany plus potential new signing Mike Taylor!) loved it when the 71 year old ref got hit in the d1ck at pace by the ball for the 2nd time of the afternoon!!! Prestwich saw out victory with some good possession football in the last 10 to cement their place among the league’s pace setters.

Prestwich Sunday 4, Manchester Limos 0
Bury Sunday League Premier Division

With the Sunday team’s striker crisis this season, manager Pete Lorenzini opted to bring in Paul O’Donnell from the Saturday team to partner Anthony Roberts in the home sides attack.

And in a solid first half performance, Prestwich grabbed a deserved lead when Roberts nodded in Darren Buckley’s corner after 35 minutes.

The visitors here holding their own though and it took a fine low save from Liam Brady to keep the Prestwich lead intact after the break.

But on 70 minutes, recent new signing Greg Marcroft grabbed his first goal for the club with a fine individual effort cutting in from the left and slotting in low across the Limo’s ‘keeper.

The visiting ‘keeper had played well though and can be pleased that his string of good saves kept Prestwich from running away with it as holes started opening up in the Limo’s defence.

Marcroft pounced on a rebound from Kieran Comiskey’s shot to tap in his second of the game before Craig Howarth’s blast was struck off for an offside in the build up.

And when Tom Gibson launched another of his dangerous long throws to the back post, Marcroft popped up on the line to touch the ball in to the net to complete a superb hat-trick in only his second game for the club.

Did I start this report with worries of a striker crisis? Well we may have just found an solution…
