PREVIEW: ROSSENDALE AMS v PRESTWICH

by | Monday December 6th 2010 | Football

PRESTWICH FC will be hoping for an improvement in the weather conditions this weekend as they travel to Rossendale Amateurs for their re-scheduled Lancashire Amateur Cup Quarter-Final tie.

Lee Metcalfe’s men go in to the game on a decent run of form including a win over Premier Division Castle Hill in the last round of the competition.

And with Castle’s top flight rivals awaiting on Saturday, Division One promotion hopefuls Prestwich will be looking to take another big name scalp on their county cup adventure.

“It’s been a frustrating couple of weeks for the lads what with the bad weather but they’ve trained well and are chomping at the bit,” said Metcalfe.

“This is a massive game for the club and while gaining promotion to the Premier Division is our main aim this season, this is a cup we really want to do well in.”

Indeed, progressing through to the semi-finals would be a superb achievement for the Heys Road club which is only in its second season since being formed in early 2009.

And with a last four tie up for grabs to the winners of Weavers and Blessed Sacrament, Prestwich will be hoping the arctic conditions improve sufficiently to get this Saturday’s game on.

• In the event of Rossendale’s Marl Pits ground being unfit, there are options to switch the tie to a nearby all-weather pitch with Fearns Sports College in Bacup being one alternative. News on a confirmed venue for the tie can be found on the club’s website here at www.pctbc.com.

ROSSENDALE AMATEURS enjoyed a good 4-2 home win over Preston GSA in round four but have had mixed results in the league recently. Ninth placed Rossendale, who finished sixth in the Premier Division last season, also overcame fellow Premier Division side Chaddertonians in Round 3 and Roca Juniors in Round 2. The club received a bye in the first round.
