RESERVES HIT BACK IN DERBY

Prestwich Reserves overcame a poor first half performance to finally edge out Old Standians Reserves at Ringley Road on Saturday by four goals to two.

The young Standians team shocked title chasing Prestwich with the opening goal in just the 10th minute, but Kieran Doherty hit home a rebound from a powerful Danny Jones effort fifteen minutes later to level the scores.

However, a Standians free-kick on the half hour squeezed under Kieran Watson in the Prestwich goal as Liam Morrissey’s team struggled to play their usual passing game.

Thankfully though, recent signing Chris Grant was well placed to score his first goal for the club shortly after to equalise again for Prestwich going in to the half time break.

The second half was a different story though as Prestwich set about ensuring their 100% record remained intact.

Penning Standians back in to their own half for long periods, the only suprise was that it took until the 80th minute to get the goal they needed as Rhys Hardie fired across the face of goal to find Danny Jones at the far post to score from close range.

And Michael Hoggard made the points safe five minutes from time when he capitalised on a spill from the Standians ‘keeper to calmly slot home in to the empty net.

• Prestwich A Team moved up one place to third in Division Five with a good 5-2 win over Old Mancunians A at Drinkwater Park. Goals from Daniel Ingham, Mike Reid and a Daniel Frappola hattrick secured the win for Andrew Howarth’s team.
