TOTAL WIPEOUT

There might be no more series planned for TV’s “Total Wipeout” – the water-filled assault course challenge. But the Lees Lancashire County League staged its own version last Saturday.

All games in the league were wiped out by the rain, which had fallen over the previous 48 hours, and continued during the day.

The first team had been looking to cement their three-point lead at the top of the league, away at Thornham, but after a sodden trawl – or was it front crawl? – of the ground, captain Steven Lorenzini had to concede chances were nil.

It was the same scenario for the second team back at The Heys.

Weather permitting, Prestwich will play host to league newcomers Stretford on Saturday, followed by a Walkden Cup quarter-final clash on Sunday away at Cheetham Hill.

The 2nd XI will have to get their map books out to make their inaugural trip to Stretford.
