EARLY SEASON CHANGES AT PFC

Nine games in to the football season, yesterday’s confidence boosting 1-0 win over unbeaten Premier Division leaders Little Lever sees Prestwich well placed in fifth place in the table.

However, it’s been a hectic few weeks around the club as some early season restructuring took place.

The fun all started back in early September when Reserve Team manager Andy Howarth resigned from his position.

It had been a tough summer and start to the season for the old A Team as they stepped up two divisions to take over the vacant Reserve team spot in Division 3.

That, coupled with Andy’s personal committments, brought about his decision and therefore a new manager was required.

The club would like to take this opportunity to place on record its thanks to Andy for all his hard work at Prestwich over the last couple of seasons.

Dean Royle and his team playing in the Rochdale Sunday League agreed to take over as our Saturday Reserve Team but most of his players could only commit to playing one day a weekend. The eventual result was us having to fold the Rochdale Sunday team four games in to the season.

This then left a number of players left over from Andy’s old Reserve Team that would more than likely have to look for football elsewhere. So it was decided to quickly reform the A Team and ask the Lancashire Amateur League if they could rejoin one of the lower divisions in place of another team that had folded without playing a game.

The new A Team took the place of Rossendale Amateurs B in Division Four but then had to wait three weeks to play their first game as the poor weather delayed their start.

The original Sunday Team playing in the Bury League had quite a difficult start to the season playing three of the probable title challengers in succession. Heavy defeats to champions Wagonmakers and Heaton United sandwich a narrow loss to the Lizzy as the team now look to start moving up the Premier Division table.

The Saturday First Team started off the season in fine form with wins over Failsworth, Chaddertonians, Bury GSOB and Rossendale Amateurs. A dip in form saw Prestwich knocked out of both the League Cup and the Lancashire Cup before yesterday’s much needed win over Little Lever.
