RESERVES ON THE CLIMB

With the scheduled First Team game against Hindley Juniors falling foul of a morning pitch inspection, Prestwich Reserves took the opportunity to strengthen their side and came back with all three points from their match with Castle Hill Reserves.

Winger Paul Sambrook opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a spectacular long-distance effort that found the top corner before a mix-up at the back moments later allowed a Castle Hill forward in to stab home.

Jason Garside found the net just a couple of minutes later to restore the visitors lead and Shaun Jackson’s strike on the half-hour stretched their advantage further.

An acrobatic volley from Garside found the corner of the goal before Jackson completed the scoring with Prestwich’s fifth with ten minutes remaining.

The win moved the Reserves up one place to eighth in Division Three and are now unbeaten in four games ahead of next Saturday’s trek to Hesketh Casuals.

• The A Team, still looking for their first points of the season, didn’t find Division Four leaders Horwich Victoria Reserves in any mood to alter that statistic as they took the points in a convincing 4-0 win at Littleton Road.

• The Sunday Team couldn’t hold out for a much needed win as AFC Elton scored a late equaliser in their Premier Division clash. A Lee Darbyshire own-goal gave the home side the lead before ‘keeper Alex Blake pulled off a superb penalty save to keep the deficit at just one going in to the break.

Declan O’Shea returned to the side and scored two second half goals which looked to have sealed maximum points until the home side’s late leveller.

• Weather permitting, games next Saturday are as follows (the Sunday team don’t have a fixture):

Prestwich v Howe Bridge Mills – Heys Road, Kick-off 2pm
Hesketh Casuals Res v Prestwich Reserves – Preston New Rd PR9 8NP, Kick-off 2pm
Prestwich A v Mostonians Reserves – Littleton Road, Kick-off 2pm
