Reports

Leigh United Predators 2-5 Prestwich FC U10 Meerkats
This was a brilliant team performance from the meerkats, the passing, tackling and teamwork was excellent.

Lewis opened the scoring when he controlled the ball and then beat the defender before shooting into the corner of the goal.

The boys were on top of their game and from a corner Lewis flicked the ball into the net.

Leigh were a very good team too and scored to make it 2-1.

Bobby was brilliant in goal and made some great saves. Liam, Aaron and Tobi defended superbly and the midfield changed with Ashley, Alexander, Tobi and Keiran all playing an excellent part. Strikers Lewis and Oliver were brilliant as well and this team is showing how much they have improved.

Liam scored a long range shot and Oliver finished off the scoring with two great goals.

This was a great team effort and the Meerkats supporters were very appreciative.

The man of the match was Lewis.

Prestwich FC U10 Panthers 0-3 Atherton Town Storm
Today was our first tough test of the season against a big physical side who where runners up last year and also won the cup.

The boys should be very proud of themselves today as we more than matched them, going close on 3 or 4 occasions in the first half and going into half time at 0-0.

Both teams continued to push but Atherton took the lead with a deflected shot that was going wide only to send Conrad the wrong way and roll into the net. Our heads went a bit then and we then let 2 more deflections in to the lose 3-0.

If they’re one of the best in the section them I’m more than happy that we will be fine this season. We more than held them today and for 3 soft goals we should of took something from today’s game!!

Well done boys great effort!!!!

Prestwich FC U9 Pythons v Aspull Lions
Python’s first home game of the season against a competitive Aspull side ended in a comfortable win for Prestwich.

A near faultless first half, with passing and movement of the highest calibre, resulted in a solo goal from Sam, a cool finish from Matthew and a clever volley from Glebs, giving the Pythons a half-time lead.

A sluggish start to the second half, mainly due to myself playing too many players out of position, but ended with three further goals. Two from Adam, the second being a blistering finish from outside the box, and a well deserved goal for Harvey who worked really hard after the break.

Well done also to Aspull for never giving up. Man of the match was Glebs but the whole team played so well and were a credit to themselves.

Prestwich FC U7 Pumas v Chadderton Park Lions
Looking to bounce back from last week’s defeat, the Pumas pretty much put this game to bed within the first couple of minutes as they stormed in to a commanding lead with goals from Umair (2) and Ash.

With regular ‘keeper Charlie on his way to the capital to watch West Brom, AJ pulled on the green jersey and despite the visitors pulling one goal back, found himself pretty much a spectator for the rest of the half.

Ashley found the net a further three times in succession before Umair notched his third.

Leo then got in on the action with a good finish before Sam H hit home from the edge of the box.

Leo and Ash scored another goal each before the half-time break and this continued after the restart with further strikes from Leo (2) and Adam.

But Chadderton’s spirit didn’t drop and they grabbed a few goals themselves before Umair finished the scoring near the end.

Overall a great team performance and some cracking goals which will give the boys plenty of confidence for the games ahead.

Team: Adam, AJ (GK), Ashley, Leo, Sam C, Sam H and Umair

Bury Amateurs v Prestwich FC U7 Tigers
The first away game of the season and we were playing Bury Amateurs just a short drive down the road to Drinkwater Park.

Once again the Tigers were playing against a team with 2 or 3 players that towered over them, who were much stronger and quicker to the ball, making it difficult for the Tigers to get in the opposing half.

Stout defending and determination were needed again and all the boys put a real stint in. There were some great performances again but, in particular, it was Kieron who put in a man of the match display, driving the team on and setting an example.

It was a static start from Kieron but after a few minutes of contemplative thought (whilst the game went on around him!) he must have suddenly worked out what to do and then (BAM!)  he was a awesome for the rest of the game – I could almost hear the click of the switch in his head and at one stage I’m sure he had the ‘Eye of the Tiger’ (excuse the pun).

Kieron’s solid tackling at the back was helped by Tom who, despite being clattered (again) put in a really solid display in defence showing great awareness when tracking back.  He and Kieron are a great partnership in defence and can only get better the more they play together.

Sam , Alex and Luke showed great determination and desire to win the ball and track back and I’m particularly pleased with Jack’s display as he was really focussed on the game today  – keep it up Jack.

Great displays again from Elliot and Bodhi who continue to get better and better the more they play together – not quite telepathic yet but getting there! At one stage I saw Elliot track the play (not the ball) and made a run to the near post. Their forward found the gap and his shot was heading for a certain goal but Elliot was there to knock it out for a corner with inches to spare. Great work Elliot.

Hats off to Joe in goals as it must be scary with all those feet flying about – great bravery and good distribution of the ball.

Thanks to the Bury Amateurs players. They were very strong and one lad, in particular, was exceptional, but the nice thing to see was that they kept smiling and played the game in the right spirit.  Thanks as well to the referee who let the game flow and for his kind and encouraging words to the Tigers after the game.

Until next time.
