Reports

PFC Under 7 Pumas v Wardle Juniors
The Pumas made it three wins on the trot with this narrow success over Wardle Juniors, but after a dismal first half this eventual result looked a long way off.

With last week’s match cancelled due to the weather and no mid-week training either, the Pumas were understandably a little rusty.

And with four goals without reply from the visiting Wardle boys, the Puma’s went it to the half-time break with plenty of work to do.

In stark contrast to the first half, Prestwich found their mojo again and first dragged the scores level with strikes from Ash (2), Leo and Umair.

Leo then struck again to complete an ashtonishing turnaround and send the Pumas in to the lead.

This seemed to spark Wardle back in to life and they hit straight back with two goals to regain their single goal advantage.

But Prestwich weren’t to be denied as Ash completed his hatrick to level the scores again before Leo popped up in the closing moments to grab his third and win the game for the Pumas.

Radcliffe Borough Crusaders v PFC Under 7 Tigers
The Tigers came from behind to record a convincing first win of the season at Radcliffe Borough Crusaders.

The Crusader’s squad was thin so special thanks go to Sam, Elliot, Bodhi and Jack for stepping up and wearing their opponent’s goal keeping gloves. They each gave a committed performance whilst gaining some valuable experience.

Tigers started strong with the usual tackling from Alex and lots of running from Kieron but it took time for their advantage to be registered. With the ball pushed forward Tom took up a more advanced positions than usual and grabbed the Tiger’s opening goal. This roused the Crusaders and Tom was then called into action in defence showing great awareness to cover his keeper. Joe made some great saves from the feet of his opponents but was beaten by a couple of good long range strikes which gave Crusaders the lead. Tom scored an equalizer after another mazy run and Tigers would have been ahead again before half time but for a diving save from Elliot in the Crusader’s goal to deny Bodhi.

The away supporters were getting a bit excited with this looking like the Tiger’s best opportunity to break their duck and early in the second half they were further encouraged by the move of the match. Alex hugged the right touch line skipping past a couple of opponents and running most of the length of the pitch before passing to Rowan who worked the ball into the Crusader’s penalty area. The ever hungry Elliot finished off the move with a clinical sidefoot into an open goal.

The lead didn’t last long as Alex handled to concede a well dispatched penalty but then Tigers edged back in front with a well struck goal from man of the match Kieron.

As the game entered the final quarter their opponent’s legs tired and Kieron’s running began to dominate the game. He was everywhere, and he also did very well not to retaliate as one of his frustrated opponents lashed out. Although Tigers lost their shape a little towards the end they were turning more of their usual midfield dominance into goals. Bodhi scored with a sweetly struck right foot and there was a well deserved second for Elliot who was rewarded for some jinking runs through the centre.

A great performance from the whole Tigers team who have patiently waited for this first win.
