PFC CLINCH UNPRECEDENTED TREBLE

Prestwich’s remarkable trophy-laden season was finally completed on Saturday afternoon when they overcame Failsworth Dynamos 3-1 to lift the Lancashire Amateur League 1XI Cup.

First half strikes from Chris Hudson and Ashford Blake (2) eased the pressure for Prestwich and although Failsworth pulled one back after the break, the result was never really in doubt as the defence stood firm.

This latest piece of silverware now joins the Lancashire FA Amateur Cup (right) and the Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division Trophy (centre) in the Heys Road cabinet to complete an unprecedented treble in our league.

It is quite simply a monumental achievement by Craig Howarth and his team and something that everybody connected to the club can be extremely proud of.

Prestwich FC Chairman John Haslam was understandably proud of the team’s success this season.

“What this team have achieved is nothing short of amazing. They have played 15 games between 29/03/14 and 10/05/14 – a period of 6 weeks – and still managed to win the League Cup and chase down a 17 point deficit to win the LAL Premier Division. A truly memorable effort.

“This season has been a rollercoaster ride culminating in, what I think is the first ever treble at our level of football, winning their league cup, their league championship and the prestigious Lancashire FA Amateur Cup. A phenomenal achievement by anybody’s standards.

“Everybody at Prestwich CTBC should be rightfully proud of what Craig Howarth and his team have achieved this season. It raises the profile of the club to a new level and all sections could potentially benefit from the football team’s success.

“As chairman of the football section I am extremely proud of what the first eleven have achieved this season. They have done so while playing the game in the right way and have surmounted every obstacle they have had to face. It is a testament to their resolve, team spirit and most of all their ability as footballers that has made this possible.”

And PCTBC Chairman Brian Lorenzini was also delighted with the progress of the football section of the club.

“This unprecedented achievement highlights the progression our Senior Football Section has made under the quite brilliant management of John Haslam as Chairman and Craig Howarth as 1st Team Manager.

“A great set of lads who have earned the respect of everybody at PCTBC, the whole section is progressing year on year and this is again credit to John and George Marsh our Junior Chairman.

“Our thanks also go to Helen Hinchliffe who stepped into the massive shoes of Viv Michaelovitz and supports everything the section does.”
