Prestwich cranked up their unbeaten run in the league to 12 matches with a comfortable win against Farnworth Town, the outcome only ever in doubt for a brief second half period when Town reduced a four goal deficit to just two before Prestwich added a fifth and thus resumed total control of the game.
Clearly the much stronger side from the start having missed few chances early doors, the only surprise was that it was the 13th minute before they took the lead when Steve Murty chased down a loose ball wide right, beat a couple of men on the touchline and squared for Darren Buckley to fire home from the edge of the box.
Minutes later Martin Hill who along with Murty went on to give nightmares to the Town defence with their skill at pace, ghosted past a couple of players from the half way line and picked out Murty who finished clinically.
Murty added a third and his second on 22mins following a delightful flick by David Prieto, and followed this up by creating the fourth for Connor Hart who picked his spot nicely from 20 yards out to give a comfortable looking 4-0 Half time lead.
The quality of football the side played in that first period had been astonishing given the horrendous playing surface full of bumps and ruts.
An air of complacency set in for the second half and whereas in the first the back line of Craig French, Joel Hudson, Kieran Comiskey and Richard Steadman had dealt fairly comfortably with the Town attack mistakes started to come into the game along with some loose marking from the side as a whole, the outcome being that Town forced a scrappy goal just before the hour.
Minutes later they scored a second, this time an absolute peach of a strike with a volley from a corner that flew just inside the right hand post giving keeper Carl Stabler no chance.
For the first time in the game the outcome appeared uncertain but gradually the lads settled down and regained control, the Town keeper who’d looked extremely uncertain in the first half constantly spilling balls and poor shot stopping made a couple of tremendous saves to deny first Hill and then Murty from point blank range but the pair weren’t to be denied and combined superbly for Hill to put the game well out of Town’s reach with a well placed finish from 12 yards.
It was now just a case of how many and Steadman joined in the fun to complete the rout bundling the ball over the line in the dying minutes having beaten a defender to a near post cross.
