New player appeal

Prestwich Cricket Club is not letting the autumn leaves stick under its feet in its bid to win the GMCL Premier Division.

The first team lost out narrowly to Egerton in a final-day clincher, but plans are already being made to go one step better and they are on the lookout for new players to strengthen their squad.

Marty Walters has already been re-signed as professional for the 2017 season, with Ryan Stanbury, Sam Holden and James Wharmby all retained, under the captaincy of Andy Bradley and Tom Gibson as vice captain.

With the second team winning the GMCL division three title, they will now face an even sterner challenge in division two, playing against many first teams.

Chairman Brian Lorenzini said: “We are already looking forward to next season in the new GMCL Premier Division, which lived up to its billing to raise standards and stage high quality games of cricket.

“Our aspirations are to be challenging for the top honours across all our teams. We have a bedrock of quality, hard-working and experienced players, together with some excellent youngsters coming through the ranks and already making their mark.

“But we are also seeking players who can help us achieve our goals and relish playing a very good standard of cricket.”
