Prestwich Cricket Club are delighted to announce the signing of Gihahn Cloete as club Professional for the 2017 GMCL season.

Gihahn (24) is a classy left handed opening batsman who currently plays first class cricket for Eastern Province and Warriors in South Africa.

His career to date has seen him amass 4277 first class runs at an average of 30.76 with 18 x fifties and 7 x hundreds.

On a previous trip to UK shores as part of the South Africa U19’s touring party Gihahn scored 125 from 140 balls against England U19’s. He then went on to represent SA in the Under 19’s World Cup in Australia where he made good contributions as his side reached the semi-finals.

Amongst other highlights of his career to date is a century scored for South Africa ‘A’ against England Lions where Gihahn made 123 against an England attack boasting the likes of Mark Wood, Liam Plunkett and Boyd Rankin.

In his latest 1st class innings last week Gihahn fell agonisingly short of another century as he was dismissed for a match saving 97 from 156 balls.

Prestwich 1XI captain Andy Bradley said: “Following the recent news that Marty Walters was unable to return for 2017 we knew that we needed a high class replacement and I’m certain that with the signing of Gihahn we have found exactly that. His career stats and achievements so far at the age of 24 show just what a good player he is and I’m really excited to have him on board for the 2017 season”.

We wish Gihahn the best of luck for the remainder of his season in South Africa as we prepare to welcome him to Prestwich for what will hopefully prove to be another successful summer.

Thanks to Gary Hunt and Cric-Intro for their help in the signing of Gihahn, concluding the deal in a professional and efficient manner.
