FIRSTS STAY UP AFTER LAST DAY WIPEOUT

Prestwich first team retained their GMCL Premier Division status after a final day washout.

Twelve months ago, Prestwich and Egerton had a last day shootout for the title, which the Bolton side won.

In a twist of irony, the two clubs were fighting for survival on Saturday – Egerton occupying the final relegation spot at the start of the day, just two points behind Prestwich.

Egerton had to win, and Prestwich lose or fail to play.

There had been a lot of hogging and cover removals during the shower-spattered afternoon, of which the unscripted highlight was Mike Hudson’s comical tumble.

It was around 4pm when the message came through that Egerton’s match with Walshaw was abandoned, at the same time as Prestwich’s encounter with Bury was also falling foul to the weather.

So the rain won the day in the end, which in turn was good news for Andy Bradley’s men.

Unsurprisingly, the 2nds trip to Brooksbottom was also washed out.
