YOUNGSTERS SHINE IN WINNING WEEKEND

Thursday August 6th 2020 | Cricket

Prestwich’s youngsters took centre stage as all three senior sides racked up victories last weekend.

Teenagers Uwais Khaliq and Umar Arif grabbed the lion’s share of the wickets as the 2nd XI recorded a superb 29-run victory over Milnrow 1st XI, while 14-year-old Luke Prescott stroked an unbeaten century for the 3rd XI in their comfortable defeat of Monton 3rd XI.
Aaryaman Roy was at the crease to guide the 1st XI to victory in their friendly with Woodhouses by one wicket.

On Saturday, Prestwich 2nds set a total of 162 for 9 thanks to 56 from opener Cameron Mapstone and 43 from Adam Cheshire.
Khaliq (4 for 27) and Arif (3-31) then carved through the Milnrow line-up, including the scalp of Scott Kershaw for 58.

On Sunday, the 3rd XI racked up a total of 268 for 5, dominated by Prescott’s brilliant 124 not out, but with excellent supportive knocks of 51 from Oli Holt and 31 from Dylan Kane.
Monton 3rds were never up with the rate, and Muhammad Arif (3 for 8), Karl West (3 for 12), Anees Arif (2 for 14) and a wicket for David Eckersley restricted the visitors to 118 for 9.

With no league fixture last Saturday, a visit to familiar opponents Woodhouses was arranged, and it turned into an excellent game and thrilling finish.
Leighton Friend top scored for Woodhouses as they totalled 172 for 7 off 40 overs.
James Wharmby (46), a quick 23 from Sam Holden, and 47 from Danny Pawson looked to have paved the way for victory, but Dawson’s dismissal at 156 for 6 soon became 161 for 9. However some sensible batting from Roy (10 not out) and Steve Ritchie took them past the finishing line, courtesy of five wides!

Prestwich Heat started their T15 campaign last Thursday with a nine-wicket win last Thursday at Stand, who could only manage 50 for 9, which was surpassed for the loss of just one wicket.
