The 3rd team clinched the league title today with a pulsating victory at Greenfield.

Skipper Peter Lorenzini was at the crease as Stephen Ritchie hit the winning run in a match-winning partnership to chase down a big total set by the hosts.

The 3rds have topped the Sunday Premier Division without losing a league game – a remarkable achievement. They still have 3 games of the season left, but cannot be caught.

Greenfield proved tough opposition and racked up 230 for 6 from their allotted overs, led by 90 from Oliver Speight. Umar Arif was the pick of the Prestwich bowlers, taking 3 for 45, and Thomas Orrell took 2 for 19.

Opener Finlay Lester struck 45 and Tom Ward hit 46 in 35 balls, but at 162-7, Prestwich had a lot of work to do. Step forward Ritchie (33 not out) and Lorenzini (26 not out) who belted the remaining 69 runs for victory in just 8.2 overs – to make it a champion weekend for the club after the 1st team’s league triumph yesterday.

Joyous scenes as Prestwich 3XI Clinch the Sunday Premier Division title.

The 4th team game at home to local rivals Stand 3rds might have lacked runs, but did not lack drama. Having restricted the visitors to 86 for 8 (Ben Pinkus 3-21, Anis Khaliq 2-12), Prestwich were in a spot of bother at 23 for 5 until Matthew Eaves and Gary Hershcovitch came together to stop the rot.

Eaves made 26, but his dismissal led to a two more quick wickets, before Hershcovitch cracked the winning boundary and finished undefeated on 32 to clinch a two-wicket victory.
