With the first and second teams starting their league season a week later, it was left to Prestwich’s 3rd and 4th teams to get the club off to a flying start.

And they both passed with flying colours!

The 3rds faced Edgworth 3rds at home on Sunday and battled to a score of 137 for 9, with Ali Sherazi top scoring on 41, opener Adam Taylor hitting 27, and a useful knock of 13 at the end of the innings from skipper Pete Lorenzini.

Karl West then took the game by the scruff of the neck and bowled 8 superb overs taking 7 for 12.

Khalid Noori grabbed two wickets as visitors Edgworth were bowled out for 45 in less than 16 overs.

The 4th team had a thriller at Failsworth Macedonia 2nds who batted first and made 122 all out.

Fourteen-year-old Ariz Sajid led the way with 5 for 26 and Anees Arif and Liam Potts both grabbed two wickets each.

Ariz Sajid claimed his first Prestwich 5-for in only his third senior appearance.

In the run chase, the middle order of Matty Eaves (24), Ben Pinkus (17) and Potts (14) helped chip away at the target, and Jack Fisher then made a useful 24. But when he was caught with the score on 103 for 8, the match was very much in the melting pot.

Sajid (8 not out) and Mike Orrell, who biffed a six in a quickfire 13, steered the team out of the sticky situation to notch up an excellent victory.
