Washout woes

Last weekend proved a total wipeout for the senior teams in league and cup action. This included the T20 Finals Day at Roe Green – which is now to be staged this Sunday.

The 1sts managed to take to the field last Saturday before rain won the day.

Egerton had made 142 for 3 when play was halted, having originally started as a 36-over game.

Opposing pro Kevin Dalmeidas was unbeaten on 65, but the short passage of play was enough to showcase the ever-present fielding phenomenon that is Tom Gibson, taking a superb catch in the outfield for Anthony Harris to be dismissed for 22.

Danny Pawson also took an excellent steepling catch on the mid-wicket boundary to claim the wicket of Danny Partington, as Andy Bradley grabbed two of the three wickets to fall.

The 2nd XI were chasing a target of 189 for 6 from 40 overs set by South Manchester 1sts, Charlie Jackson returning 3 for 35. Prestwich were positioned on 45-1 (Thomas Orrell 25no) when the weather forced its abandonment.

No ball was bowled on Sunday as the 3rd and 4th team games were called off due to the persistent and torrential rain.

However, optimistic members of the 5th team travelled to Tattenhall, near Chester, to take part in a 6-a-side tournament – and had the satisfaction of playing, even though they lost their games!
