Prestwich 1XI’s 83 run win over bottom club Glossop, coupled with Royton’s loss at DSL, opened up a 5 point gap between 2nd and 3rd with James Wharmby’s team also having a game in hand to play too.
Lewis Smith’s good form with the bat continued with another 33 here before Professional Nico Van Zyl top scored again with 45.
Useful runs also from Jack Doyle (18), Ryan Maddock (18) and Nathan Bailey (17) helped Prestwich to post 191, all out in the 48th over.
There was some resistance from Sonczak (31) and Pro’ Samarasooriya (36) but when they were both clean bowled by Charlie Jackson (2-22), the remaining wickets fell fairly regularly with Glossop soon being all out for 108 in the 27th over.
Andy Bradley (pictured above) grabbed four wickets for just 11 runs with Van Zyl and Bailey picking up a pair each along the way too.
Over in Oldham, Prestwich 2XI slipped to only their second league reverse of the season, going down by 56 runs at Werneth.
Chasing 218 to win, Daniel Ahern starred with the bat scoring 60 but with only Sam Baldwin (38), Hassnain Ashfaq (22) and Adam Cheshire (10) hitting double figures, the target proved too much on this occassion as Prestwich finished all out on 161.
Wrapping up the Saturday action, the Fifth Team played a ‘home’ friendly against Todmorden at Radcliffe’s Homer Street ground but fell to a 21 run defeat.
Ariz Sajid top scored for Prestwich with 44 as Richard Hatchett’s team were bowled out for 110 chasing Todmorden’s 131-9.
On to Sunday now and Prestwich 3XI slipped to a 4 wicket defeat to Roe Green at Heys Road.
Adam Taylor top scored with 29 while Nathan Flegg (21) and Jon O’Connor (18) added some useful middle order runs as Nick Carter’s team were all out with a ball to spare of their innings for 144.
Opener Chapman’s half century was at the centre of Roe Green’s chase and, despite the loss of 6 wickets, the outcome of this one never really looked in doubt.
There was better news from the Fourth Team though where a superb batting performance away at Worsley contributed to a 129 run win.
Half centuries for Ariz Sajid (56) and Liam Potts (54), coupled with solid contributions from Christian Millington (40), Tom Hatchett (35) and Haider Sajid (20) helped their side finish the 40 overs on 258-9.
In reply, the home side never really recovered from losing 2 wickets in the fourth over and with only McQuade’s 40 doing any damage to the Prestwich bowling figures, Worsley were eventually all out in the 31st over for 129.
Anis Khaliq took 3 wickets and pairs for Oscar Ireland, Ben Pinkus and Ariz Sajid.
