Firsts share Lancs Cup with Ormskirk

After a fine start in the first attempt at this game a fortnight ago in Blackpool, Prestwich were again showing early promise in the rerun at Ormskirk’s ground on Sunday.

Ryan Maddock struck with just the second ball of the day as Jack Doyle took a smart catch at square leg to dismiss Calum Turner.

Then in his second over Maddock clean bowled George Politis to leave the home side wobbling slightly at 17-2.

Sam Holden and George Lavelle then set about repairing the Ormskirk innings until skipper James Wharmby superbly held a swirling skyer from Holden in the 11th over off Dan Pawson’s bowling.

But at 49-3 the considerable talents of Lancashire’s Lavelle were called upon, to which he duly obliged, going past his not far off run a ball half century before the rains came down for a second time and never went away.

• Ormskirk 1XI 106-3 (Maddock 2-41); Prestwich 1XI DNB

Back at Heys Road there was no play possible for the Thirds in their Sunday Premier Division match with Heaton and likewise for the 4XI in their game at South West Manchester.

So that’s that for cricket at home for another season although there is one remaining Third Team game next Sunday to look forward to as they travel to Littleborough Lakeside.
